Paradise Lost

by Greg Asimakoupoulos

Posted: October 15, 2006

The killing of Amish schoolgirls is evidence of a fallen world…

Not far from Paradise, PA
a town is renamed Hell today.
The flames of grief engulf the soul
and evil's in the air.

The horse and buggies all in black
define this week's heartbreaking facts.
A gunman killed five Amish girls
who felt so safe at school.

And once again we can't ignore
the Game of Life's most bloody score.
Our world is fraught with pain and fear
and sane-less acts of wrong.

Dear God be near these folks who grieve
whose brittle nerves (like autumn leaves)
are raked and piled and set ablaze
by all that's taking place.
